MOVIE REVIEW LA LA LAND

City of stars, are you shining just for me?

Welcome to Los Angeles, the place where dreams come true, and the place where artists of all kinds and backgrounds struggle to get their voices heard. The place where your waitress is an actress, your mechanic is a poet, and the man playing the piano at that restaurant of the suburbs is a jazz composer.

In the middle of this artist-packed city we meet Mia Dolan (Emma Stone), a waitress aspiring to become a figure in the movie industry; and Sebastian Wilder (Ryan Gosling) a jazz lover who wants to open his own club, but is currently having some financial problems, and finds it nearly impossible to keep his job.

The movie follows this pair of dreamers through their journey to achieve their long-wanted dreams, their ups and downs, their doubts, and their discovery of love and hope.

Having already killed it in the Golden Gloves, tonight it confronts the Oscars with so many nominations it will surely win, at least, a couple of them.

The movie is beautifully directed, and the photography and costumes are delightful. However, the most important asset of the movie is (of course) the music. Powerful, catchy, and simply beautiful. It completely immerses you in the movie, to make you become a character yourself. My favourite track is Audition (The Fools Who Dream). As a wannabe actress myself, I felt especially connected to it. Definitely touched me.

A sweet story, with great music and performances that gives you all the vibes from the old, classic Hollywood musicals, and an unsuspected twist at the end. This movie will definitely make you spend a good time. And push you to get out there and follow your dreams!

City of stars Just one thing everybody wants There in the bars And through the smokescreen of the crowded restaurants It’s love Yes, all we’re looking for is love from someone else
